Constitutional amendments should not be centred round one individual – Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the country has fallen into an abyss due to a gang which had underestimated the potential danger that lay ahead.

Addressing a meeting with a group of officials representing the Public Administration Service at the Opposition Leader’s Office, Premadasa noted that the country is in a catastrophe due to the failure to heed to warnings from the international community that the country was going from bad to worse.

“This situation had arisen owing to the arbitrary decisions of an individual with a dictatorship ideology and a group loyal to him. The constitutional amendments should not be centred around one individual and that the objective of the Samagi Jana Balawega (SJB) is to adopt a programme in line with restraint and maintain the right balance,” he added.

Premadasa said some bankrupt groups were spreading rumours that SJB is opposed to the 21st Amendment, and queried as to why the SJB would oppose an Amendment for which it has already submitted proposals.
