Transport Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardane’s decision to start 50 new train journeys is impractical due to congestion at Pettah and Maradana railway stations, Chairman of the Railway Station Masters’ Association, Sumedha Somaratne said.
He said this was due to the great number of office trains arriving and the lack of compartments.
“Although it is not practical, it is important to discuss this proposal with Department officials and Trade Unions,” he said.
He said the previously halted night mail train should be reactivated, but no response has been received despite informing the Railway Manager.
