Minister of Justice Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said the proposals with regard to the 21st Amendment to the Constitution will be submitted to Cabinet on Monday (6).
“We held several discussions with MPs. Some MPs were of the opinion that the 21st Amendment should be introduced as soon as possible considering the situation in the country while some others were of the opinion that the Amendment should be studied in-depth and given a longer timeframe before it is presented,” he added.
Addressing the media yesterday (2), he said after he presents all the proposals to Cabinet, it will take a decision with regard to the timeframe of presenting and passing the Amendment.
Meanwhile, the SLPP Parliamentary Group met Rajapakshe yesterday (2) to discuss the 21st Amendment.
MP Jagath Kumara said the matter concerning dual citizenship is one of the core issues they discussed while Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said the 21st Amendment should be passed in Parliament.
