Police seek public assistance for arrest of SJB MP Wedaarachchi’s son & wife

Sri Lanka Police have sought public assistance to arrest Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dilip Wedaarachchi’s son, and his wife, who were recently seen in a heated clash with the police.

Warning that the harboring of, or providing refuge to wanted suspects is deemed a crime, Police have urged the public to come forth with any information they may have on the couple via the following hotlines;

071- 8591493 or 047- 224622

The former Tangalle Mayor, Ravindu Wedaarachchi and his wife Nethmi Silva were seen in an altercation with the Police at the Bedigama Interchange on the Southern Expressway, after they were refused entry.

Police had prevented the couple from entering the Expressway on the grounds that they were attempting to transport a refrigerator that had been carelessly loaded onto their double cab.

Subsequently, the said individuals had verbally abused the Officer, as evidenced by the video footage recently circulated across several media platforms.

The Police Officer later filed a complaint with the Weeraketiya Police, while Ravindu Wedaarachchi took to his official Facebook claiming that the Officer had initiated the incident, having grabbed him by the shirt.

Sri Lanka Police noted, however, that investigations revealed that the couple had, in fact, obstructed the duties of the Officer, and are currently in hiding after fleeing their residence.
