Northern fishers to get Indian kerosene

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda said steps had been taken to distribute kerosene to fishermen in the Northern Province from a stock of kerosene provided by the Indian Government.

He added that kerosene would be distributed to fishermen in the area through the fisheries societies they represent.

He also said 15,000 litres of kerosene was distributed to Kayts fishermen.

The Fisheries Minister expressed confidence that the fishermen would be able to carry out their daily fishing activities.

Meanwhile, Minister Devananda directed officials to take the necessary steps to issue permits for fuel sheds to supply fuel to multi-day fishing trawlers.

The Indian Government has requested that 90 per cent of the fuel distributed by them go to people who have lost their jobs as a result of the country’s economic crisis. Minister Devananda added that steps would be taken to revoke the licences of fuel stations that provide fuel for other purposes.
