Help sought from seven countries – Amaraweera

Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said he is seeking the assistance of seven countries for the supply of fertiliser.

He also said discussions to import 65,000 MT of fertiliser from India are underway.

The Minister said during the weekly Cabinet Media briefing on 31 May, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India, Milinda Moragoda would also take relevant steps towards this objective.

“We advise the farmers to wait for the fertiliser rather than going to the paddy fields prior to receiving it,” he added.

He said, arrangements are being made to deliver organic manure to paddy farmers, while high-level discussions to obtain chemical fertiliser are underway.
