Duminda Silva arrested by CID

Former parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who was acquitted by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa under a Presidential pardon, has been taken into custody.

A CID official said that he was arrested while at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.

The Supreme Court yesterday (31) decided to suspend the Presidential pardon granted to the former Parliamentarian and ordered the CID to arrest him.

The Court also ordered a travel ban on Silva and called for his passport to be confiscated.

The order was issued after hearing two petitions that had been filed by former MP Hirunika Premachandra and her mother Swarna Premachandra challenging the presidential pardon granted to Silva.
