The Fisheries Ministry has made plans to supply fuel to all registered fishermen and vessels in the North. Fuel will be supplied to fishermen from fuel sheds in their respective regions based on the registered name list.
Fisheries Minister, Douglas Devananda announced the launch of a programme to provide fuel to northern fishermen.
He also said the names of fishermen in the Northern Province are being collected to provide them with fuel, including kerosene.
This follows a discussion with Fisheries Ministry officials.
Northern Province fisheries society representatives had brought to the attention of the Minister that small-scale fishermen and multi-day fishing trawlers were facing severe difficulties due to a lack of fuel.
