Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe yesterday (30) fixed hearing of the case against 2019 Mrs Sri Lanka winner Caroline Jurie and Model Chula Padmendra, over the controversial Mrs Sri Lanka 2021 contest, to be heard on 22 August.
The date was fixed after considering a request made by the witness for the complainant that she was unable to appear in Courts due to her health condition.
The two parties were previously referred to a Mediation Board by the Court, but as they failed to reach a settlement, the case was taken up on 4 April. The case was filed by the Cinnamon Gardens Police on 5 April based on a complaint filed by Mrs. Sri Lanka 2020 Pushpika de Silva following which statements were obtained from Jurie and Padmendra on 8 April.
The Cinnamon Gardens Police informed Court that Silva had refused to settle the matter without an apology from Jurie and Padmendra while the latter also refused to apologise. The police also observed that the State incurred a Rs 700,000 loss through this incident.
