India helping over 700 Jaffna fishers with fuel


Jaffna Government Agent K. Maheshana said that the Government of India is currently providing fuel assistance to more than 700 fishermen in Jaffna who have been stranded due to a lack of fuel.

The Government Agent also said that preparations are being made to distribute 15,000 litres of fuel provided by India to 705 fishermen in the islands of Kayts, Analativu, Elavativu, Nainativu, Delft, and Nedunteevu in the coming days.

Meanwhile, at the Jaffna Kayts Divisional Secretariat, 2,300 fishermen from Jaffna’s Analativu and Eluvativu islands were given 4,600 litres of fuel at a rate of 20 litres per person.

The event was attended by officials from the Indian Deputy High Commissioner’s Office in Jaffna, Minister Douglas Devananda, Jaffna Government Agent K. Maheshan, and many other government officials, as well as island fishermen.
