Minister of Transport Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said, more train compartments will be added to the service within a month.
He said action should be taken to rectify shortages of compartments, for services to be provided at full capacity and that the number of trains should be significantly increased as a solution to the fuel crisis.
He expressed these concerns yesterday (26) during a discussion at the Sri Lanka Railway Department Headquarters.
Dr. Gunawardena said public transportation will be restructured as soon as possibleto address the fuel crisis. A special focus was placed on how the acute fuel crisis currently afflicting Sri Lanka has impacted people’s daily lives.
The Minister said reorganising and improving public transportation is one of the most appropriate steps that can be taken to ease public burden.
As a result, the Minister directed officials to expedite the implementation of this programme, emphasising the importance of avoiding inconvenience to passengers.
