The Nugegoda Chief Magistrate, yesterday (26), released on bail a suspect, who was charged by Boralesgamuwa Police, with damaging property of the Boralesgamuwa Urban Council during the recent riots in the country.
Bail was set at two sureties of Rs 200,000 each.
The suspect was identified as Indrajith Athukorala. Boralesgamuwa Police had arrested the suspect on charges of damaging the said UC’s property to the value of Rs 400,000.
The Police stated that they were still probing the incident and are looking forward to arresting a few more suspects in this connection. They requested the Chief Magistrate to remand the suspect concerned.
However, Counsels Asha Kahawatta and Udara Ruwan Kumara informed Court that the prosecution had failed to submit any evidence to Court, with regard to the involvement of their client in the recent incident.
Therefore, they requested Court to release the suspect on bail. Taking the submissions into consideration, the Chief Magistrate enlarged the suspect on bail.
