The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recorded a statement from former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, on 24 May, in connection with the 9 May incidents at Kollupitiya and Galle Face Green.
Police said, the CID recorded a nearly four-hour-long statement from the former Prime Minister at his Colombo residence due to his health condition.

The CID previously summoned eight MPs in connection with the incident while Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Major General (Retd) Jagath Alwis, Western Province SDIG DeshabanduTennakoon, IGP
C.D. Wickramaratne were also summoned.
Former Prime Minister Rajapaksa resigned on 9 May following the outbreak of political violence which killed five people including an MP and wounded more than 150.
Earlier, supporters of Mahinda Rajapaksa attacked
anti-government protesters at the MynaGoGama and GotaGoGama protest sites in Colombo. Enraged mobs destroyed several properties of ministers and MPs of the ruling coalition. A fire also broke out near the back gate of Temple Trees, the official residence of the Sri Lankan Prime Minister.
