Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said, amidst allegations of people maintaining illegal fuel stocks by refilling vehicles several times a day, a mobile application is being developed and tested to monitor vehicles at fuel stations and share real time data with fuel stations islandwide.
The App which was developed by Sri Lanka Police Information Technology Department is being tried and tested in multiple locations currently.
In a Tweet, the Minister said the details of the number plates of the consumers’ vehicles will be entered into the App.
“The data entered is shared real time with the other app users. Once the number plate details are entered, it will indicate whether the same vehicle has pumped fuel on the same day from any other fuel station and outline its history of refuelling,” he said.
