Sri Lankan sprinter Yupun Abeykoon set a new record at the International Athletics Meeting Anhalt 2022 in Germany, clocking in 10.06 seconds.
While this is a new record for the 100 meter event in South Asia, Abeykoon also broke his own national record.
Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa, known as the 8th fastest man in the world in 2022, finished in the event second with a time of 10.14 seconds while Joris van Gool of the Netherlands was third clocking 10.28 seconds.
Last week. Abeykoon set a new National and South Asian record in the 200m with a time of 20.37 seconds International Athletics Castiglione Meeting in Grosseto, Italy.
He beat the national record set by Vinoj Suranjaya Silva who ran the 200m event at the National Trials in April 2018, timing 20.68s.
The 28-year-old now holds both the National and South Asian records in 100m and 200m events, securing his title as the fastest Asian in 2022.
