Non-essential Public employees to WFH

A circular to minimise non-essential public sector employees reporting to work, in view of the raging fuel crisis, will be issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government today (25).

A discussion in this regard was held at the Ministry yesterday (24) under the patronage of Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, while issues concerning the need for the maximum utilisation of Ministry resources together with the increased involvement of field officers in operations were also focused on.

Previously, the Secretary to the Ministry issued a circular on Friday (20) to Heads of Institutions instructing non-essential public sector employees to work from home, in line with a statement made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to do so to conserve the country’s limited fuel supplies.

Speaking in Parliament, the Premier said, it would help manage fuel stocks for the time being. He explained to the House that sufficient stocks of diesel and petrol have been secured which will last till mid-June.
