Former Minister Johnston Fernando yesterday (24), gave the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) statement,which lasted over five hours, in connection with the 9 May attack on anti-Government protesters by SLPP supporters.
While Fernando was giving the statement, a protest was staged outside the CID demanding his arrest over the said incident.
Meanwhile, Fernando’s Media Unit, in a statement, observed that the speech delivered by Fernando at Temple Trees, minutes before the attack, had been distorted and published on social media and other media.They noted that the full speech had also been perused by a group of Lawyers, adding thereby that an investigation will be launched to trace those who so published the distorted speech.
The CID previously summoned 8 MPs in connection with the incident while Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Major General (Retd) Jagath Alwis, Western Province SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, IGP C.D. Wickramaratne were also summoned.
