HRCSL enables student to sit OL exam in Kalmunai

A complaint has been lodged with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) Regional Office in Kalmunai by a father alleging that his daughter who was to sit for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination on 23 May was denied admission by the Principal. This incident had taken place in a school in the Kalmunai Zonal Education and as a result the student missed sitting for one examination paper.

After this issue was brought to the attention of the Regional Coordinator of HRCSL in Kalmuna,  Abdul Aseez, the Principal was summoned and warned. Following the warning, the Principal handed over the admission card to the student in the presence of the HRCSL Regional Coordinator.

The student sat for the examination on Tuesday (24).

It is alleged that the Principal had denied permission for five students to sit the examination, claiming that the students had poor attendance.

The HRCSL regional office in Kalmunai and Kalmunai Zonal Education have commenced inquiries with regard to the incident and were preparing to take action against the principal.
