Google I/O, Google’s annual conference for developers was concluded few days before, in-person for the first time in three years and was hosted by CEO Sundar Pichai. Google unveiled more hardware and software updates than we expected with a sneak peak to the upcoming products also. So, here is a quick list of highlights from Google I/O 2022.
As expected the new OS Android 13 was announced at the conference. This android version has many improvements in the key areas of privacy and user safety.
Google is using as new design language called Material You and gives a better experience in personalising the interface. The ‘Material Palette’ allows the user to change the palette of the apps and widgets from a given selection of colours. Also, there are new pretty and playful visual effects added to the lock screen and notification bar, giving a better and a personalised experience to the users.
Further, this version has improved interoperability between android devices to enhance media sharing and content mirroring. It also aims to provide a more refined experience with smart home connected devices.
The beta version has been released to selected group of devices for now-Pixel 4 series, Pixel 5 series, Pixel 6 series, ASUS ZenFone 8, Oppo Find X5 Pro and Find N, Realme GT 2 Pro, Vivo X80 Pro, OnePlus 10 Pro, Tecno Camon 19 Pro, and Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro along with the Mi Pad 5. However if you are planning to download the bets version, it is thoughtful to have everything backed up since there could be major bugs in it.
Google Pixel 7-series, Pixel tablet, Pixel Watch
Google announced the new Google pixel-7 series which comes with a newly designed rear camera it follows a two-tone design and carries an aluminium frame. The sales will start in July and the base price in the US starts at US $449.
Pixel tablet, bringing the pixel experience into the wider screen, will be the Google’s iPad competitor. It is supposed to have a better compatibility with all your other pixel devices and will be available from next week.
After many rumours and leaks, the pixel watch has been announced by Google at the conference. It is compatible with devices with android 8.0+ and has a round shape. It is made of re-cycled steel. Google confirms it to have Fitbit integration, swappable bands, and a tweaked UI alongside more of Google’s own apps.
Google announced that they will be adding as many as 24 new languages spoken by around 300 000 people, to Google translate, giving a better experience to the users.
Pichai revealed a new handy tool added to Google Docs. This new feature can summarise the long texts and provide the user with only the important facts. He mentioned that this would make the work easier for many people as they don’t have to take the trouble of reading long texts and documents.
Google Meet improved
Google has improved audio and video quality of Google Meet related to the project starline in order to give the users a better video-conferencing experience. The new update enhances the video quality in darker settings with studio lighting effects.
‘Multisearch Near me’ and Scene exploration features
This new ‘Multisearch Near me’ combines millions of data from various inputs to allow users to click on a picture-food, grocery, etc and access everything related and situated nearby. For an instance if you click on a picture of food, you will be provided with its name, where you can buy it and delivery options.
Scene exploration feature facilitates users to real-time scan more than one item and get information without switching from one item to another.
AI Test Kitchen powered by LaMDA 2 and PaLM
This new Test Kitchen feature has the ability to talk real time on an imaginary topic as well as to stay on the topic. It can also create automated lists, sub lists and even give tips to the user. it will be open to access in few months. The PaLM language model gives way to possibilities including real-time answering of questions while translating to other languages, all at once.
Apart from these, Google announced many more including the improvements to Google Assistant, Monk skin tone scale and security features and so on.
