Centres to streamline fuel, kerosene distribution

The Ministry of Power and Energy intends to set up fuel and kerosene distribution centres for specific working groups such as farmers, fishermen, and tea industry workers.

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Kanchana Wijesekara said many flaws have been identified in the present distribution of fuel. He told the weekly Cabinet briefing yesterday that this was the reason the ministry’s efforts to distribute kerosene have been limited.

“The Ministry of Fisheries has forwarded a proposal to distribute kerosene and other necessary fuel to the fishing community under their jurisdiction and the upcountry community will follow the same mechanism,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Government announced new vehicle fuel limits. He said fuel will be sold for vehicles in accordance with the limitations. As a result, motorcycles and three-wheelers could get fuel worth up to Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000, respectively. All other vehicles will be permitted to buy fuel up to Rs 10,000.
