Don’t buy fuel from third parties

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday (23), requested the public to refrain from purchasing petroleum products from third parties.

He said, investigations have shown that certain individuals are engaged in collecting fuel and are mixing petroleum products with other liquids to sell at higher rates.

He therefore urged the public not to encourage these businesses and to report them.

Meanwhile, Ministry Secretary K. Mapa Pathirana said, investigations have shown that a third party is blending diesel with kerosene and selling it at exorbitant prices in the black market.

When queried if this situation has arisen as a result of the country’s continuing fuel queues, he said, people should stop staying in fuel queues for business purposes.

“There are businesses taking place in fuel lines. It exacerbates public tension as well as the length of the lines,” he said.
