CBSL Governor ordered to release name list

Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela, yesterday (23), ordered the CBSL Governor and the Treasury Secretary, to submit a complete list of names, to whom, the Government of Sri Lanka made payments related to International Sovereign Bonds (ISB) amounting to US$ 500 million, on 18 January this year.

The Court issued this order, when the case filed against former CBSL Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, on charges of criminal breach of trust and criminal abuse of funds, related to causing a loss of US$ 500 million to the Government through Sovereign Bonds, was taken up for hearing.

Additional Magistrate Kekunawela afterwards reissued notice on the former CBSL Governor to appear before him on 25 July and ordered to further extend the overseas travel ban imposed on Cabraal, until the said date.

Though the Court had noticed Cabraal to appear in Court on two previous occasions, the latter had failed to be present.

Shavendra Fernando, PC, appearing for Cabraal said as the notice issued to his client, has still not been received, the latter would not appear in Court.

Taking the submissions into consideration, the Court noticed the former Governor to be present at the next hearing, fixed for 25 July.

A private plaint had been filed before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court against Cabraal, by former Governor of the Southern and Central Provinces Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon.

Through his private plaint filed through an affidavit, Tennakoon, a resident of No. 32/7, School Lane, Nawala, has charged that the former CBSL Governor had flouted Provisions contained in Sections 386, 388, and 392 of the Penal Code and the Provisions contained in Sections of the Registered Stock and Securities Ordinance Act No. 56 and 7 of 1937.
