AG instructs IGP to transfer SDIG Tennakoon

Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam instructed IGP C.D. Wickramaratne to transfer Western Province SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon to avoid undue intervention in the investigation conducted into the attack on anti-Government protesters by SLPP supporters on 9 May.

Tennakoon was also summoned by the CID to record statements in regard to the incident following which he made statements for over 10 hours on Tuesday (17), while he was also summoned by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) on Friday (13).

The HRCSL summoned him together with Army Commander General Shavendra Silva and IGP Wickramaratne and Head of State Intelligence Service (SIS) Major General Suresh Salley for failing to provide adequate security during the clash and the failure to uphold the rule of law. Meanwhile, SDIG Tennakoon was also among the 22 individuals that the Attorney General directed the IGP to arrest and produce in Court as soon as possible, in connection with the incident if there is reasonable suspicion for doing so.
