Cricketer Abhishek Anandakumara was awarded the Best All Round Student (Ryde Gold Medal) at Trinity College, Kandy recently.
Abhishek started off by winning the Junior School Best All Round Boy (2011), Middle School Best All Round Boy (2015), Cricket ‘Lion’ (2018), Senior (Head) Prefect (2020) and 1st XI Cricket Captain (2020/21).
Abhishek has already gained exposure in the Under-23 domestic cricket scene. He has represented Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club, Negombo Cricket Club and Chilaw Marians Cricket Club.
Abhishek has set another unique record. He has led the Trinity cricket teams in all age groups, starting from Under-13 to Under-19. Later, he went on to represent Kandy District and Central Province teams.
Apart from all these achievements, he started off as the Vice-Captain of the Sri Lanka Schools Under-15 team which toured Malaysia in 2017. He also represented the college in Swimming and Athletics, as well as playing an important part in the Choir.
He is one of the rare Trinitians to represent the College First XI team for 5 years, and has scored over 2,500 runs and bagged over 150 wickets during this period.
During the 2019/20 season, he was the 5th highest wicket taker with 74 wickets and ranked 3rd in the all-round category scoring 700 runs. During the 2020/21 season too as skipper, he led Trinity to the semi-finals of the tournament after a lapse of few years and ended the season as the joint highest wicket taker.
