JUST IN: CID summons former Minister Johnston Fernando


Former Minister Johnston Fernando has been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) tomorrow (24), for questioning pertaining to the violence that transpired on 09 May.

Last week (16), Attorney General Sanjaya Rajaratnam ordered the arrest of Fernando and 21 others affiliated with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party, over the violent attacks on peaceful protesters near Galle Face and Temple Trees.

SLPP MPs Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayathilaka were arrested the next day (17), and were remanded on 18 May, till 25 May on orders of the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayatilleke have been remanded in connection with the incident.
