SLCP appeals for donors

The Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians (SLCP) appealed for donors for medicines and medical devices for children receiving treatment at all hospitals.

A spokesperson for the College said yesterday (19), that paediatricians across the country were supporting the programme. Paediatricians around the country update the SLCP by informing it of specific drugs that are lacking for treating paediatric cases. He said the list of drugs have been included in the SLCP’s website (

The SLCP has been playing a coordinating role to obtain medicinal drugs and equipment required for paediatric patients. The spokesperson said, it was in close contact with the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) of the Health Ministry. “Through this mechanism he could ensure that drugs are not duplicated and we could request for medicines and devices that are in short supply at present. Both local and international donors could contribute.”

According to SLCP’s website some of the items required include ‘critical’ items such as PDA devices used to close a hole in the heart, Epicardial lead for pacing (35cm in length with a button type end), 10,000 tablets of Sodium Valproate 200mg, 2800 tablets of Flucloxacillin 250mg, 50 vials of IV Meropenem 500 mg vials and, 50 more vials of IV Meropenem 01gvials.
