Make deal with the people, not Rajapaksas

Trade unions, including those in the state health service, have urged Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe to form an agreement with the people rather than continuing any agreement he may have with the Rajapaksas.

Joint convener for the Trade Union Coordination Centre (TCC), Ravi Kumudesh on 18 May commencing a protest march at 2 p.m. near the Fort Railway Station said it was the peaceful protests by the youth and the public, demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ex-Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa, who stepped down, that paved the way for Wickremesinghe to be appointed Prime Minister.

“Therefore his allegiance should be to the people and not to the Rajapaksas. The Premier at all times should work towards upholding the interests of the public and not the Rajapaksa’s”.

The trade union also called for all, including the Former Prime Minister and Ministers Namal Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, to be arrested immediately for instigating, aiding and abetting the attack on the peaceful protests outside Temple Trees and Galle Face.

The TUC also staged protests yesterday (19) and will stage today (20) at 2 p.m.
