Litro summoned before COPE

The management of Litro Gas Lanka Ltd has been summoned before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) today (20), to inquire into the shortage and delay in supplying gas, following Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s request.

Accordingly, officials have been informed to appear before the Committee at 11:00 a.m.

Wickremesinghe speaking in Parliament yesterday (19) expressed displeasure over Litro’s delay in supplying gas despite payments already been made for a gas shipment.

“There is a severe gas shortage in the country. I instructed the company to take measures to supply gas to the market as soon as possible. Litro said there is a delay owing to bad weather conditions on Tuesday (17). However, even by 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, bowsers were not assigned to transport the consignments to the Litro plant,” he stressed.

“I need a report on this. Therefore, I request COPE Chairman Dr. Charitha Herath to summon Litro officials to clarify the issue”, he added.
