Kanchana orders fuel stations to prioritise ambulances

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara has ordered fuel stations to prioritise ambulances over all other vehicles.

In response to public and media allegations, he said that the directions were given to prioritise only the essential services.

He refuted the widely circulated claims that Members of Parliament receive subsidised fuel.

“While I understand the public’s frustration and anger,” the Minister said on Twitter, “posts shared on MPs being given subsidised fuel rates are false.”

The Energy Minister’s tweet continued, “No parliamentarian from either side or anyone has been given subsidised rates than the current market prices given to the public.”

He also noted that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has been directed to conduct an investigation into the rates displayed on the dispenser at the Police garage.

“Except for ambulance services, no one will be granted privileges at fuel stations,” he said.
