Fuel shortage hits Prisons

The Prisons Department’s essential activities, such as transporting prisoners to Court and cooking, have been severely hampered due to a lack of adequate fuel and gas in prisons.

The buses transporting detainees to Court are out of fuel and inmates do not have sufficient LP gas to cook, sources say.

It is said that due to the situation, all cases except the most urgent are to be conducted via zoom.

However, the Department has taken steps to continue cooking with firewood. The majority of Prisons Department officers ride motorcycles to work, but due to the current fuel crisis, they are also unable to report to duty.

If these issues are not resolved, the Prisons Department will face serious issues moving forward, sources further said.
