People continue to resist Rajapaksa rule

Despite appointing new Prime Minister, the country will remain chaotic until the President resigns, Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) Leader MP Selvam Adaikalanathan said.

Even though a new Prime Minister has been appointed, the people continue to oppose the Government, and the appointment of a new Prime Minister had no effect on this, he noted.

“Despite the attacks, the ‘Gota Go Home’ protest at Galle Face continues and the protesters’ main demand is that Rajapaksa be sent home. The public does not want any Rajapaksa in government and they will protest until all Rajapaksas resign from their positions,” he said.

He also noted that the President staying in office without resigning or changing the remaining positions will not address the nation’s issues.

“Even though the Prime Minister was appointed from outside the Rajapaksa circle, cabinet ministers and others will be chosen from the Rajapaksas’ circle and citizens are well aware of the political dramas and do not want to face any future crisis as a result of Rajapaksa rule in the country. President should make changes to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution or in 21st Amendment to the Constitution, and should step down from his position after giving power to Parliament. This is the only way to gain public support towards a democratically elected Parliament,” said Adaikalanathan.
