Former Antonian, Nomads, Saracens, Kandy United and All Ceylon cricketer and one of the best soccer players, A.C.M. Lafir, passed away yesterday (18 May) in Colombo at the age of 89 years.
Lafir and Ronald G. Stephen were involved in a partnership of 276 runs for the first wicket in the 1954 Big Match against Trinity, which stands as a record for any school match to date, though 68 years have passed. Lafir played under C.I. Gunasekera for All Ceylon against a visiting England outfit led by Ted Dexter.
His Janaza will take place in Colombo this morning (19 May).
