The Ministry of Energy has received 67 proposals suggesting various methods of supplying fuel to the public and other commercial activities in the last four weeks as a response to overcome current fuel crisis and put an end to long queues.
A team of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) officials reviewed these proposals and identified 39 that meet stipulated fuel standards, pricing methods, and practical implementation.
Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera recently met the agencies that submitted proposals. They were briefed on the current mechanism of importing fuel, mode of payment and supply-related queries.
When asked about the proposals that had received due consideration, Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy Mapa Pathirana said that he cannot disclose the same, but that the representatives of the ministry had informed the relevant agencies citing that to implement any proposal, a time line of 90 to 180 days is required.
