Change in government and policies cannot be brought about as long as Basil Rajapaksa is in politics, Leader of the Up-Country People’s Front MP Dr. V. Radhakrishnan said.
He claimed that despite collaborating to select a Deputy Speaker, former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa disrupted the parties’ unity and is the primary cause of all problems.
“There will be no change in the country until former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa is removed from politics,” he said.
While commenting on the Deputy Speaker nomination, he mentioned that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe suggested that a woman for the position.
“While everyone agreed on the name proposed for the position, the former Finance Minister intervened and suggested another from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. “This caused us to split as parties, and we were forced to choose one of the two by vote. His action disrupted the parties’ unity, and he is an artist at disrupting unity. Meanwhile, the former finance minister has also made it clear that nothing will go the way as the Prime Minister wants in Parliament.
With this situation, how will the newly appointed Prime Minister continue to implement changes in the country and how will he achieve what he expects. This is the biggest question now,” said Radhakrishnan.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe should take a proper decision immediately and if not, he will not be able to achieve his goals for the county, he added.
