Sumanthiran slams PM for voting No

Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) MP M.A. Sumanthiran slammed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for voting along with the SLPP to reject the proposal to debate the motion expressing displeasure over the President on the urgency basis yesterday (17).

The said proposal moved by Sumanthiran was rejected by a majority of 51 votes.

“Now the whole country knows who protects the President. Your names have been displayed on the board today. The country now knows who is protecting the President, who does not protect you. Absolutely shameless conduct by the Prime Minister and those seated on the Government benches. When this motion was drafted, Wickremesinghe agreed to vote in favour of it. However, at that time he was in the Opposition. Wickremesinghe wanted to see the draft and I sent it to him on the 26 April. He vetted it. He suggested that the draft be sent to Galle Face to obtain their consent as well,” Sumanthiran lashed out.

“However, he changed his stance and had failed to vote in favour of the motion as previously announced. What games is he playing? The only thing that has changed between those days and today is that he has got a job as a Prime Minister.

“That’s a Prime Minister we have in this country. We are ashamed to have as Prime Minister someone who does not know whether he is sitting or standing or walking. He doesn’t know what his principles and policies are. He says one thing and does another thing,” he added.
