Consumers said despite fuel not being available at fuel stations in and around Galewela and Dambulla towns, petrol and diesel had been distributed to them by nearby trade stalls during the past few days. However, they charged that a bottle of diesel and petrol had been sold between Rs 400 and Rs 500. They alleged that even some workers attached to certain fuel stations had been involved in this racket which has been in operation in Galewela and Dambulla towns.
Consumers charged that the Police had not taken any measures to arrest these racketeers who continue to fleece unsuspecting members of the public.
