Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera says that despite standing in fuel queues, it is not possible to provide fuel to the public today (18).
Speaking in Parliament today, he said that while Sri Lanka currently has sufficient stocks of diesel, there is a shortage of petrol in the country.
“In the event, we get sufficient petrol, we will require at least three days from Friday to distribute it to all fuel stations. So, please don’t stand in queues at fuel stations for petrol,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka has received USD 160 million from the World Bank and discussions are underway on whether to amount could be used to import fuel.
