Fishers cautioned over going out to sea – Met Dept


Current inclement weather in the Kalutara and Ratnapura districts impacted 2,099 families comprising 8,331 people; while injuring two others, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said. No deaths have thus far been reported, however. neither have the affected been displaced.  Meanwhile, these incidents reported took place on Sunday and Monday (15-16 May).  Bad weather further damaged 232 houses and 17 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the area in question, it said. 

Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department yesterday warned fishers of rough seas encompassing the seas off the coast of Kankesanthurai in the North and traversing in a Westerly direction, before going right up to Pottuvil in the East in the next 24 hours.

Waves as high as two to 2.5 metres may emanate, backed by wind speeds of 60-70 kilometres in the area in question in the review period, it further warned.
