The elephant fence project at Kanugahawewa Model Village Anuradhapura was completed and vested to the public and to the Department of Wildlife Conservation recently, Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) said.
Commanding Officer, SLAF Station Morawewa, Group Captain Lalith Sugathadasa officiated at the event. The construction project was undertaken by the SLAF Station Morawewa, under the directives of SLAF Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana as a community service project.
This elephant fence which is 14 kilometres long will protect 314 families, their property and paddy fields from wild elephants. Airmen of SLAF Station Morawewa completed the task in four months.
