Discuss with all political parties before forming new Cabinet

Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe should invite all political parties in Parliament to a single platform and hold discussions before forming a new Cabinet, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) said yesterday (16).

Addressing the media, SJB MP Rajitha Senaratne said, a Government with the collaboration of all parties will be able to win the confidence of the public.

“I have been part of several Cabinets previously which were appointed in a methodical manner. The present Government is appointing ministers based on the support it receives from various political parties. The public will rise again against such a Cabinet and a Government. The Premier had not invited parties to join the Cabinet until now, but has had clandestine discussions individually with MPs,” he added.

Senaratne noted that since Prime Minister Wickremesinghe is aiming to rebuild the country, he should seek the support of all parties in Parliament.

“Everyone will accept the Cabinet only if it is formed after a formal open discussion with parties and in accordance with a proper agreement. Wickremesinghe can have an open dialogue with political parties even now and form a proper government if he has self-respect. Premier Wickremesinghe is breaking up political parties and trying to woo MPs to his side. There are funds ready for this purpose. Those who join the Government are doing so either for money or for position. The Government is currently formed in an inconspicuous manner.  No one in the world would assist the Government which is formed in such a manner,” he said.

Responding to the inquiry that former Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa will be appointed the Leader of Opposition, Senaratne alleged that it is also a part of the conspiracy.
