The Chairperson of the Committee on the Supply of Essential Commodities, Vajira Abeywardena, appointed by the Prime Minister, said yesterday (15) they had held discussions with suppliers, on how to resolve the shortage of essential commodities.
He also urged the public to support the Committee’s efforts and not cause unrest.
“Our primary goal is to alleviate affected people. We have started the process of getting international support. If a tense situation erupts in the country, we could lose international support,” Abeywardena said during the discussion,
The discussion focused on issues facing the distribution of essential commodities.
Abeywardena went on to say that traders have informed him that the task is being completed despite enormous difficulties.
