Parliament has lost public’s mandate – AKD

The current Parliament is not a place that represents the real needs of the people. Therefore, this Parliament no longer has a mandate to rule the country, Leader of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Anura Kumara Dissanayake claimed.

This is reflected in the proposals made by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, the Mahanayake Theras, Ven. Sobhitha Thera and other political movements tha .a new mandate is needed within a short period of time, he noted.

Addressing the media on Friday (13) he said a distorted parliament does not represent the people’s mandate and has no right to take decisions regarding the country and its people. “Therefore, the people should be given the opportunity to elect a new Parliament as soon as possible.”

President Gotabaya Rajapaksas’ decision to appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister disregarded public demands and proposals made by professional and civic society, he claimed.

“People sent him home against the destructive policy of 2015-2019. What kind of democracy does Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was rejected by so many people, agree to form a government together with Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who lost all the forces that voted for him in two and a half years?” he questioned.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s 69 lakh mandate was to defeat the mastermind of the Central Bank robbery, he noted. Gotabaya came to power saying that Ranil Wickremesinghe will be punished for not fulfilling the responsibility of Prime Minister by allowing the Easter attack to take place, he further added.

“Gotabaya Rajapaksa also received a mandate against the selling of national assets, including the sale of the Hambantota Port and against the political culture that Ranil Wickremesinghe continued to follow. Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister against that mandate,” he stressed.
