Police request ‘GotaGoGama’ protesters to leave site


Police have made an announcement requesting all protesters present at ‘GotaGoGama’ to leave Galle Face, in light of the on-going islandwide Curfew and the State of Emergency declared on 6 May.

The announcement was made over the PA system of the President’s Office.

“This is a notice by Sri Lanka Police.

As per Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance, a state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka with effect from 6 May. In addition, a curfew has been imposed from 9 May to 7.00 a.m. on 12 May. This Order directs that no person shall be on any public road, railway, public park, public recreation ground, or other public ground or the seashore in such areas, except under the authority of a written permit. Therefore acting in violation of the curfew conditions is an offense as per the law,” the announcement stated.
