Newly appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has assured that he will not interfere with the ongoing ‘GotaGoGama’ protest, and will allow for it to continue.
When inquired as to what would happen to the mass demonstration taking place at Galle Face, Wickremesinghe stated that the protest must continue, and further ensured that the Police, too, will not be allowed to lay a hand on the protesters.
He said this while speaking to the media following his appointment as the 26th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka earlier this evening (12).
Speaking with regards to his appointment, the United National Party (UNP) Leader stated that he holds the majority in Parliament, and that he will solve the ongoing crises with the aid of all the other political parties.
When questioned as to whether he held a majority on the side of the Opposition or the ruling party within Parliament, Wickremesinghe assured that he held a majority on both sides.
