Police warns social media users against supporting violence on platforms

Police have identified 59 social media groups and their admins who have been active in promoting violence on social media.

Issuing a statement, the Sri Lanka Police said that necessary legal action has already been initiated in this regard.

The Police said that the groups had gathered people via groups operated on various social media platforms to carry out attacks on houses, vehicles, and other properties.

The Police warned the public that legal action will be filed if they are found to have encouraged violence through social media during the unrest that broke out across the country earlier this week.
