Independent MP Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that a National Council should be established and on its recommendations, a Cabinet should be appointed, representing all political parties, to govern the country for a reasonable period of time.

He said given that the incumbent Government cannot in any case continue to be in power, prompt attention should be drawn towards the establishment of an all-party government to address and attend to public grievances.

“Constant proposals have been brought forth for the establishment of a National Council comprising party leaders of all political parties representing Parliament. On the recommendations of the National Council, a Cabinet should be appointed representing all Political parties to govern the country for a reasonable period of time. The National Council should also suggest a Prime Minister with the consensus of all MPs,” he added.

Dr. Rajapakshe also noted that former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was thwarted by former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa from making decisions adding that the latter has always disliked any good happening to the country.

He also noted that successful discussions were held with SJB adding that he hopes that they would work together with the independent group of MPs setting aside their own political agenda.
