Among the hundreds who participated in the meeting with former Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (9) morning at Temple Trees, were several inmates of Watareka Prison, Ceylon Today learns.
Six inmates involved in a clash in Malabe have confessed to Police that they are Watareka Prison inmates.
The pro-Rajapaksa group in buses were stopped in Malabe by the people who were enraged by the attacks on peaceful anti-government protest sites ‘MynaGoGama’ and ‘GotaGoGama.’
According to the Malabe Police OIC, the majority of the individuals were admitted to hospital after sustaining injuries, and six to eight protestors were carried to the Police station, where they later confessed to being inmates.
However, the OIC confirmed that these inmates were not detained, but are presently at the Malabe Police Station.
