President considers BASL’s proposals


President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that he will consider acting in compliance with the Constitution on the proposals put forward by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) to overcome the current political and economic instability. The President made these remarks at a discussion held with the Executive Committee of BASL on 8 May at the President’s House.

Based on the current situation, the BASL presented 13 main proposals to its Executive Committee and they were passed unanimously. The President discussed the implementation of these proposals and emphasised the importance of upholding the rule of law in the process.

During the lengthy discussion between the President and the BASL all proposals were taken into consideration.

President of the BASL Saliya Pieris PC, Secretary, Attorney-at-Law Isuru Balapatabendi and other members of the Executive Committee were present at the meeting.
