Litro to distribute 80,000 gas cylinders


It is planned to distribute 80,000 cylinders of gas per day beginning tomorrow (11) as a ship with 3,500 MT of gas will arrive in the country today (10), Chairman of Litro Gas Vijitha Herath said.

With the intervention of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, arrangements were made to distribute 15,000 domestic cylinders of gas to the Colombo and Gampaha districts yesterday (9) and today (10).

He also said a sum of USD 7 million was paid for the purchase of gas yesterday.

Meanwhile, Litro said it had decided to borrow USD 120 million to buy gas under an Indian Credit Line. Sri Lanka will receive USD 70 million from the World Bank for gas purchases. Steps will be taken to resolve the gas shortage as soon as possible, he said.
