Nittambuwa shooting: SLPP MP killed


Five people were injured, while another died following a shootout in Nittambuwa this evening (09).

Furthermore, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his driver were also reported dead after the vehicle belonging to the MP was involved in the shooting.

The MP is suspected to have shot himself, after being attacked by the anti-government protesters, while his driver is believed to have hung himself.

As per reports, a group that had arrived in the MP’s vehicle had opened fire at a group of anti-government protesters who were gathered in the area. 

Subsequently, three people suffered from gunshot injuries while three others were injured in the chaos and later admitted to the Wathupitiywala Base Hospital in Nittambuwa.

Three persons were undergoing surgeries, however, hospital sources have confirmed that one individual succumbed to his injuries.
